We were thrilled to support this year’s Bronte Classic this past weekend, hosted by @haltonsalmon , @bitemetoosportfishing 's local club dedicated to enhancing our Great Lakes fishery. This event drawed an impressive full field of 51 boats. It’s a true testament to how much this community values conservation, the fishery, and the future of these waters. The Bronte Classic is about giving back to the local environment. Thanks to everyone who participated, HRSTA (Halton Region Salmon & Trout Association) raised valuable funds that go directly into hands-on conservation efforts. These include pen rearing hatchery programs that support fish populations, riparian tree planting to improve watershed health, and habitat restoration projects that make our rivers and shorelines better for fish and wildlife. The club also runs angler education programs, helping all of us become better stewards of this incredible fishery. This year, we were proud to donate a Blue MR3 reel as the "Tyee Prize" for the largest Tyee salmon (30+ lbs) caught during the event. If no Tyee was caught, the reel would be raffled to a deserving volunteer who participated at 2023-2024 outreach events, celebrating those who roll up their sleeves at shoreline clean-ups, chinook penning, and habitat improvement efforts. What makes this event special is seeing the community come together—anglers, conservationists, and volunteers alike—to protect what we love. Every dollar raised and every tree planted makes a difference. Let’s keep pushing forward, ensuring that the next generation can enjoy the same incredible fishing experiences we have today. Today marks the grand opening of the 100th season at the Tyee Club—“When a group of 3 avid fishermen met in the Willows Hotel in Campbell in 1924, their intention was to form a fishing club that would catch large chinook salmon in a sporting manner. To see the Tyee Club flourishing still 100 years later would make this initial group of fishermen very proud. The allure of catching a chinook salmon 30 pounds or more on 20 lb test line with 6 ounces of weight or less and using an artificial lure with a single barbless hook while being rowed keeps fishing enthusiasts coming back year after year. The Tyee Club has had a few challenges in its 100 year history, but the determination and passion of volunteer club members has overcome them one at a time. Declining fish stocks, fishing regulations and COVID-19 are a few of the hurdles that have been dealt with recently. Despite challenging regulations and declining fish stocks, the enthusiasm in the Club remains strong as many nights in August will see 50-60 rowboats fishing the Tyee Pool area. Most late August evenings will see parking spots and benches along the Tyee Spit fully occupied by both locals and visitors who are watching and listening intently for the cry of “fish on '' from one of the rowboats as a chinook salmon is hooked. The sound of line peeling off the reel can be heard as the rowboat is deftly steered away from the rest of the rowboats out of the fishing grounds to allow others to carry on fishing. Within 15-30 minutes, the boat will be pulled up on the beach in front of the clubhouse hopefully weighing a registered tyee salmon. The backbone of the Tyee Club is its members that continue to help year after year. Our caretakers at the clubhouse that keep the grounds in meticulous shape, the passionate group that have contributed to the centennial celebration, the many individuals that contributed to the clubhouse renovation and the numerous folks who contribute to our fund raising events year after all help make the Tyee Club successful and over come any challenges it encounters. 👇Drop into the comments for the rest #islanderreels #fishwithprecision #tyeeclub #tyeeclubofbc
